Gangsters films represents one of the most popular genres in film history. Movies staring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G Robinson, James Cagney and Paul Mooney becomes the backbone of stories filled with violence and moral messages about family, honor and corruption. Later stories were inherited by Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon and Leonardo Di Caprio.

Now Johnny Depp have his chance of been a bad guy with the film Black Mass. This film is the true story of one of the most violent criminals of South Boston Whitey Bulger (Johnny Depp) leader of the Iris-American Winter Hill Gang. The story develops when a FBI agent John Connolly (Joel Egerton) childhood friend of Bulger and William Bulger (Benedict Cumberbatch) Massachusetts state senator pressure the two bothers to help him to go after the Angiulo Brothers gang offer Whitey Bulger his chance of been an informant letting him operate his way.

Connolly is in control of the Bulger’s but also of his FBI department manipulating his boss Charles McGuire (Kevin Bacon) and his close coworker John Morris (David Harbour)

Director Scott Cooper ( Crazy Heart) delivers an outstanding gangster movie filled with action, great performances and also with very interesting visual style. Johnny Depp playing Whitey Bulger is one of his best performances yet, since Edwood, Chocolate and Finding Neverland. His make up goes the borderline of creepy to very realistic gang leader Whitey Bulger.
