Moving to NYC is probably one of the most complex and hard decision ever. Specially for college students, the pressure of been cool or trendy, also fit in the right groups is always the key. Tracy (Lora Kirke) comes to NY to study creative writing. Quickly she realize that she needs to be important in the school and also outside. Let’s face it, she is in NY and she needs to own the city. Tracy’s mom is getting married, her future husband have a daughter living successfully in the city. Brooke (Greta Gerwing) is a caricaturesque, pretentious, and egocentric New Yorker. After Tracy’s mom insistence of meeting the two stepsisters to be, Tracy make the call…

Brooke meet with her (Tracy) in center of NYC, Time Square. After a long night where Tracy get completely impressed by Brooke success, the audience start discovering what kind of person she is. Everyone who lives in NY or any other major city meet someone who lives thru appearances and have so many projects going on like Brooke. On the other hand Tracy is another character that you meet in NY. The newbie who’s trying to understand how the city works, how to deal with people the best way possible but also is the victim of self-assurance.

Noah Baumbah directs Mistress in America a story of two girls who discover thru each other their weakness, dreams and desires. The director satire city characters who are looking to be trendy and meaningful in this world, by using smoke and mirrors to impress their surroundings. Brooke is an entrepreneur/gym trainer/schemer who just simply impress Tracy who is a lonely girl who’s looking for a reason to fit.

The film is witty and sometimes funny. But at the end could be a sad reality for some people who feel amused by the real representation of people around us.
